Spondooli Boom ‘N Bust is a fun, interactive, competitive stock market simulation game, where students trade stocks across a given period in stock market history while time passes at an accelerated rate. Students can trade stocks starting as far back as 1980, and with game lengths ranging from 3-30 minutes students have the opportunity to trade in the real, historical stock market at upwards of 5 days per second. Boom ‘N Bust allows for students to look forward to quick 3 minute games at the end of class, where they learn decades worth of investment experience.

How it Works…

Spondooli Boom ‘N Bust begins with a teacher creating a new game through the Spondooli Teacher Edition client. There, teachers can customize aspects of the game, such as the time period, game length, and more. Once the game is made, a code will appear on screen for all students to join through their Spondooli app. Once all students join the game, the teacher can then begin, throwing all students straight into the action. In the game, students will see a list hundreds of different stocks evolving through time, being able to freely invest in them just as they would in the Spondooli stock market simulator. Time is accelerated such that a chosen amount of years will pass over a chosen amount of time, resulting in games that can be fast-paced, in-depth, or anywhere in between. Stocks in Boom ‘N Bust will have their names randomized so students cannot gain any advantage from their knowledge of the future, rather testing their ability to notice patterns and practice investing techniques. At the end of the game, the student with the most money wins!

Power-ups

One of the things that make Boom ‘N Bust as fun as it is for students is the inclusion of an extensive power-up system. Throughout the game, students will be able to use their earnings to buy various powers which come with various effects. Effects range from the ability to freeze an opposing player’s bank account, to multiplying profits and even crashing the market. All and all, power-ups make for a game that is not just educational, but entertaining the entire time through. Below are Boom ‘N Busts current power-ups with more to come.

Bad Reception

Slow down an opposing player’s animations.

Boom

Slowly increase the prices of all stocks for all players for a short time, then decreases them back to normal.

Bust

Crash the market. Slowly decrease all stock prices for a short time.

Cup 'O Joe

Decrease animation speed for a short time.

Freeze

Freeze another player’s bank accounts, preventing them from trading for a short time.

The Invisible Hand

The most epic, exciting power-up yet. Coming soon.

Jug 'O Joe

Decrease animation speeds permanently.

Loss Divider V

Decrease losses on bad trades by a large amount.

Loss Divider IV

Decrease losses on bad trades by a significant amount.

Loss Divider I

Decrease losses on bad trades by a tiny amount.
